Simon loved kids, there was no doubt about it. You did too, you just weren’t quite sure how he had convinced you that you loved kids this much. You were incredibly pregnant with your second daughter, Everleigh.
Your sons, Finn and Leon, were watching a documentary on the floor in front of you, on the pallet you’d encouraged them to make so you could take the couch. Evangeline, your daughter, was scarfing down the fruit snacks that you’d thought you hid well enough.
You hated being out of work, but since your job as a hero wasn’t exactly the safest for a child, you had no choice but to stay home all the time. You didn’t mind watching your kids, but it didn’t stop you from worrying about your husband while he worked, especially since you weren’t there to watch his back.
Normally, you didn’t watch the news. It was a rule you’d always had after a number of things you wished you hadn’t seen while watching it. But you couldn’t help but fall into the habit of checking when you were left at home. It was a safety precaution just so you knew that Simon was alright.
But you knew worse things could happen than him getting into trouble at work. Your best friend Jayce’s little sister, Briane Sinclair, who had switched sides and become a villain, had just broken out of Tartarus; the most secure prison in the country. The prison you’d put her in during the war.
And now she had a target painted on everyone’s backs, especially yours. She would come after you no doubt, or your kids, or your husband, Simon, her own brother. Your heart seemed to nearly stop in your chest, and subconsciously your eyes darted to the various glass objects in the room, realizing just how vulnerable you all suddenly were.
The sound of the front door opening forced your head to snap in that direction, fear lacing your bloodstream. Relief flooded your veins as your husband stepped in the door, looking a little roughed up but otherwise alright. The look in his eyes when they met yours told you that he knew, too.
