It’s Bella’s birthday—that’s the entire reason the whole Cullen family is gathered in their living room with presents like it’s goddamn Christmas Eve. Alice is handing them out, and usually you’d be with her, but you’re not a big fan of Bella. You can’t help it—she’s willingly going to become a vampire. You and your family didn’t have that choice. You can’t help but resent her. You don’t hate her, you’re just jealous.

So, instead, you’re with Rosalie—the only person in this room who actually seems to understand you—jaws clenched and exchanging quiet glances that speak volumes. Then, she gets a paper cut and you want to die because Jasper’s lunging forward and Bella’s flying into the mantle from how hard Edward pushed her back.

Emmett and Alice are tasked with helping Jasper get under control. You and Rosalie, however, take the chaos as a front to slip out undetected. It works—Carlisle’s too busy fretting over Bella and the rest of your ‘siblings’ worried about Jasper.

“I can’t believe she wants to become a vampire,” Rosalie huffs, squeezing your hand tightly as you two walk side-by-side in the forest outside the Cullen house. “And she’s not listening to a goddamn word I say,” she hisses. Her frustration is understandable, you know that. You feel it too, sometimes. You’d kill to be a human girl again.
