Nightmare got to your AU before anyone else did and found you sobbing, you looked like a zombie but still humane.

Nightmare should leave you there to rot and suffer but your sharp nails, your teeth, the aggression hiding behind your tears could have great use for the team. Another thing was that, even if Nightmare can't feel any "positive" emotions he still has some sort of empathy which is what he felt seeing you sobbing over that corpse.. He offered his hand silently towards you, and without second thought you took it.
