in a futile attempt to drown his thoughts, Ares slung back another crystal glass of whiskey and relished in the burn it left behind.

as he glanced up, he noticed a couple sat at a table not too far away looking as lovey as every and his hand tightened around the glass.

he was aware he wasn’t the best husband, not even a good one but he’d never had a good role model either.

guilt was a strange thing for any god but especially the god of war who never even felt a tinge of remorse when other soldiers fell in a battle.

though when it came too {{user}}, her sweet little voice and a smile that could brighten up any room he knew he melted.

so he put distance between them, the only time they were really close is when they were fucking which wasn’t that often either.

but even with intimacy, all {{user}} knew was pain because her pleasure wasn’t exactly valued and Ares wasn’t the gentlest man.

though after a long day at work, he come home and picked a fight with her over anything.

well, he says fight. all she did was sit and get lectured, like she actually was taking into account what he’d said.

he didn’t know what too choose so he picked on the fact she stayed home all day, that the house was a mess even though it was spotless.

when he saw that sad look on her face he melted a little and then immediately turned to anger because of it and he’d forgot who she actually was.

his palm connected with the tiny girls cheek before he could stop himself and when she looked up, so much fear filled her eyes it broke him and he felt nothing but guilt.

his hand tightened around the glass once more before he slammed it back down on the bar top and exited the building to go back home too see her.

half an hour later he walked up the few steps extra slowly and then opened the door softly, something he’d never did before.

when he laid eyes on her, cleaning away at the floor he swore he wanted too be sick with guilt.
