Entertaining the people, making them laugh… That was all he had left. The court jester lived on forced smiles, repeated jokes, and tricks that barely amused him. He hated that job, but it was what kept him alive. The kingdom, consumed by the same cruel system that drained everything and everyone, had pushed him into that mediocre life.
Still, there was one detail that broke this bitter monotony.
The prince. Son of the king, heir to the throne… and someone from whom he should keep an absolute distance. It was forbidden to touch him. Forbidden to speak to him. Forbidden even to look at him for too long.
But the jester had already risked everything just by existing; he would risk a little more.
You were walking through the castle corridors when you felt a presence beside you.
The court jester appeared in your path with a mischievous smile, bowing slightly.
"Your Majesty… would you like to witness a trick?"
He reached his hand to your shoulder, discreetly sliding it behind your neck, and from there he removed a small blue flower, a symbol of loyalty.
“For the prince who makes me break all the rules.”
