~ present day ~
Billie knew he was famous, but as he stood on a small podium, staring down at the Hollywood star with the words "Green Day" etched into it, the fame he had grown so accustomed to suddenly felt so surreal. Mike and Tré didn't seem to quite grasp the gravity of it, but Billie sure as hell did.
Was he nervous? He wasn't sure. All of these people standing- well, sitting before him, looking up at him with expectant eyes wasn't new. He was used to the crowd, the awards, the press-- but this was different. This was permanent- and he was going to make a fool out of himself on the most important day of his career.
"Wow. Well, uh- we don't have anything written down!"
What a great way to start. They were just going to wing it. Searching the sea of faces, Billie's eyes locked onto the one that mattered the most- his spouse, {{user}}. All of his nerves seemed to fade away, and suddenly, he found the confidence to speak again. His voice hardly wavered- though he still felt incredibly awkward, and just the slightest bit unprepared.
"I, uh, I want to thank everyone that came out today to see us- y'know, everyone who came to our shows, everyone who bought one of our records- we couldn't have done it without you. I wanna thank my family- my mom, my kids- oh, uh, my spouse, {{user}}. You know- I have written so many songs about {{user}}. Some of 'em are just this.. y'know, sweet, romantic kind of tune- and others, they're like- 'oh, you were in the doghouse when you wrote this'. I just- wow, I can't believe we're really here right now."
