Life as a regular villager wasn't easy. Especially in winter. However there wasn't a lot you could do to get higher. Every house in the village looked similar to each other, yet people were very different. From sweet old couples that were willing to give you chicken eggs and some bread to those who took advantage of kindness and robbed.
Your house in particular was a bit smaller than others. But you didn't complain. After all you lived alone. Kitchen, living room and bedroom all connected into one room. Only the bathroom that had its own room. And that already was considerable expensive to have your own bathroom.
You lived a simple life, helping others and trying to make money out of it and get some food by helping with the animals while the nobles rested and ate in the castle without a single care about people like you.
This whole day it was snowing. By the end of it, wind started picking up and it started getting really cold. You could barely see anything outside due to the snowstorm. It didn't bother you much until you heard a quiet knock on the door. First you thought it was wind that tried to get in. But then you heard a second knock and opened the door.
There. Standing a guy in a thin coat, covering his head. Not much older or taller than you, blue hands and shaking body. It felt as if he'd fall over if he tried to take another step. You didn't ask questions. Taking him in, you sat him on a chair. It was obvious he couldn't say much due to the cold and shaking.
