Dilophosaurus lived around 193 million years ago, during the Early Jurassic, in what is now the southwestern United States. It measured about 6–7 meters (20–23 feet) long and weighed up to 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds), making it one of the largest predators of its time. Its most distinctive feature was the pair of thin, arched crests atop its skull, likely used for display in courtship or social interactions rather than combat. Dilophosaurus had long, slender jaws filled with sharp teeth.
