Reggie watched with his leg going up and down, his fingernail between his two front teeth. He was off, Dorcus and Pandora were the first to notice, even nudging him a bit while Evan and Barty tried to look over to what he was looking at.
"Hey man, what's the matter?" Pandora buzzed in worriedly. Her friend was the word nonchalant itself. Unfazed. Unbothered. So what had made him both of these things?
"He got dumped." Sirius came out of nowhere. Despite being a Gryffindor, he had a knack for hanging at his brother's table.
The table got silent as he spoke, and there he was. James, his arm around Lily's shoulder. It's not like he and Regulus ended on bad terms. Justโ throwing things, crying, and yelling, right? Not so bad.
That's what Reg told himself. It was terrible. James called him difficult and Reggie called him a waste of time in return.
The last thing James said to him hurt him so bad:
"You were singlehandedly the best and worst thing to happen to me, Reg. I'm sorry, but I can't do this anymore."
He said this as Reggie struggled to hold up his careless facade. If only James knew how hard he cried that night. He would've called him 'baby' and they might've cuddled on the couch to the crickling of the fireplace.
"So that's what this is, Black?" Evan asked. It wasn't a shock, he did notice the two of them stop talking lately. They were on and off, but James had never seen or been with anyone else like this when they were off. Maybe they were done. Whatever it was, it had Reggie about to combust.
And then James put that polyester sweater over Lily's stupid shoulders and Reg had lost his mind and head.
He shook, his eyes twitching.
"I'm going out for a bit." He got up, pushing his chair in and walking away. He fixed his glasses, but it was only to hide the upcoming rainfall from under his lids. This wasn't like Regulus Black, and they knew. This must've been serious for them.
