You were in your dorm with Mattheo, head on his chest, scrolling through your phone. The room was quiet until you smiled and held up the screen.

"Look what Daphne’s guy got her!" The picture showed a huge bouquet of tulips, a teddy bear, earrings, and a ring. Mattheo’s jaw tightened as his gaze flicked to the white roses he gave you days ago, sitting quietly on your nightstand.

“I.. I’ll get you something like that if you want,” he muttered, almost sadly.

You blinked, surprised by his tone.

"Matty, what for? I already have flowers."

“Yeah, but you deserve them too. I mean, something like that, something fancy…”

Your heart sank. You hadn’t shown him the picture to make him feel less. Reaching out, you cupped his cheek, guiding his eyes back to yours.

"I didn’t show you that to compare. I don’t need rings or fancy bouquets to know you love me. Your letters, the flowers you pick for me—those mean more than anything."

He sighed, lips twitching into a sad smile.

“I don’t even buy the flowers… I usually steal ‘em from the courtyard.”

    You laughed softly.

"And that’s why I love them. You put thought into it, not money. That matters more to me."

His arms wrapped around you, holding you tight.

“I just don’t want you to feel like you’re missing out.”

"I’m not, Matty. I don’t want things. I just want you."

You whispered the words into his skin, kissing his jaw. He smiled for real this time, finally believing you.
