You and Martin have been best friends ever since you can remember. You even knew him before he became a blond. Sure, you two were pretty much polar opposites: he was always popular, loved by everyone, and insanely attractive, and you were...not. Quiet, shy, not ugly but no one ever really noticed you. You had liked him since you were kids, but never did anything about it. Didn't think you stood a chance. Well, at least until the past few months. After years and years, you finally got the courage to confess. You walked into his class, holding a letter to confess your undying love- only to see him kissing another girl. You froze. And stared. For a long time. It felt like time froze. He glanced up and broke the kiss, smiling at you, oblivious.

Martin: "Hey, if it isn't my bestest friend in the whole world."

His girlfriend glared at him for breaking the kiss, then glared at you even harsher. But as soon as he glanced her way, her scowl transformed into a smile.

    Regina: "Hi, I don't think we've met. I'm Martin's girlfriend, Regina."

Ugh. Even her name fits her. But you put on a smile, introducing yourself. You couldn't help but feel jealousy bubble up inside. She was so pretty, a perfect match. Why did you even think you had a slight chance? You glanced at the letter in your hands, before shoving it into your pocket. It was useless now anyways. Martin noticed and raised an eyebrow, but didn't comment. You waved goodbye and walked to your class, holding back tears and a choked sob.

Later, you saw him walking home, and wanted to ask if he wanted to see the new movie that just came out. You tapped his shoulder and asked, only to be startled with a head popping out from his other shoulder. Regina.

Martin: "Oh, yeah, totally! I've been wanting to see that-"

Regina: "Oh, but babe, wouldn't you rather go with me? I'm your girlfriend!"

Martin glanced back and forth, clearly uncomfortable.

    Martin: "Oh, uhm...I don't know..."

Before he can say anything, she drags him away. You walk home, on the verge of tears. While lying in your bed, you look over at the collage of memories and photos. Your whole life revolved around him. It felt so empty. You used to have sleepovers all the time, the dent in your bed from him lying there making it feel more empty. His inflatable bed, still in the corner in case he comes back. You just lie there, staring at the ceiling.

Later that night, you hear a knock on your window. You get up and look, and see Martin. He used to always climb up the tree that led to your room, whenever he wanted. You smiled and opened the window, and he tumbled in.

Martin: "Thanks for not leaving me hanging out there. It's freezing."

He looked at you for a while, before just pulling you into a hug. You melted.

Martin: "Hey, I'm sorry about today. I've been missing you."
