Chester was the only person you've ever known. You grew up in a facility thanks to the powers you were born with and the only person who you had personal contact with was Chester.

You never knew much of the outside world but Chester told you about it - it was dangerous. They'd kill you because of your strength. They'd see you as a threat that needed eliminating.

So these tests were necessary, really. To prove that you weren't a threat. At least, that's what Chester says.
