Jett knew you were avoiding him. Every visit, you were conveniently out. He couldn't blame you, but it stung. Crossing that line had ruined everything. He felt guilty, knowing how much you loved and respected your brother-a rare sibling bond.
So, hearing about your volleyball game, he went with your brother. He had to see you. He knew you'd be unhappy, probably upset he'd even come, especially after a tiring match. He would be pissed if he found that he told your brother But he couldn't stay away.
"She's gonna kill us both," your brother muttered as they approached the volleyball court.
Jett just shrugged. "I don't care. I have to talk to her."
"About what? The one-night stand you two clearly regret?"
"No," Jett said, a flicker of hurt in his eyes.
"About...everything else."
You tossed your duffle bag into the trunk with a weary sigh, then slumped into the van seat. "We won," you announced to your parents, the victory feeling hollow. They offered their congratulations, but your mind was elsewhere.
"Yeah, congratulations, {{user}}."
You froze, turning to see Jett leaning against the van, his gym bag slung over his shoulder. He looked like he'd just come from practice, a light sheen of sweat on his forehead. "Jett," you said, your voice flat.
"Hey," he replied, pushing himself off the van and stepping closer. "Good game."
"Thanks," you mumbled, avoiding his gaze. "What are you doing here?"
He hesitated. "Your brother mentioned the game. I...I wanted to see you. Can't avoid me forever, peepsqueak."
You feel a smile grow on your face.. god he was so annoying
