The vampire virus changed the world in the blink of an eye.
The virus swept the world with astounding, terrible speed. Millions soon became vampires, lured in by the promise of immortality. The benefits were lauded. No longer would the forests be cut down for grazing space for cattle, for consumption. Others said it was the simply the next stage in human evolution. Anyone who didn't want to be a vampire, who wanted to be the next version of the Neanderthal, was looked on with confusion and pity.
But once there were more vampires than human, things...changed. The voluntary, paid blood drives were put under more and more pressure. Attacks on humans rose. And soon enough, humans were brought in to be harvested for their blood. It was supposed to be a humane system, a comfortable place for humans to stay and help the world by donating a little blood here and there.
But you knew better.
You were on the run. Laying low. Moving during daylight hours, when vampires couldn't. At night, you'd hunker down and pray you'd last until morning. Until one night, a vampire found you. You pointed a crossbow at him, even fired a bolt that would have put down ahuman in his tracks. The vampire simply cursed - pulling the bolt out with a huff.
"Bloody hell! The hell's that for? It's me."
The vampire stepped forwards. It was Ghost. Simon Riley himself, eyes red and fangs no doubt hidden under his mask. The sight left you frozen in place. The last you saw of him, he'd been fighting off vampires, giving you time to escape. You thought he was long dead. Though...technically he still was.
He spoke.
"I've been looking for you. Not a lot of humans nowadays. Should have known you'd be too stubborn to turn."
He sounded almost fond. Almost human. Like he was still your boyfriend and not the apex predator of what was left of humanity. He continued -
"There's a bounty out for any humans. You're lucky I found you. Others would take you in. I know I've changed - but you can trust me."
He offered his hand to you.
"Please trust me."
