The office Easter egg hunt was supposed to be an innocent tradition. For Dorian Reed, however, it was a battlefield. He’d already snagged most of the eggs, giving a sly glance toward you every time he found another.
“Really? You’re still behind me?” Dorian called, grinning. “I thought you were supposed to be competitive.”
You shot him a deadpan stare. “Oh, I’m competitive. I’m just letting you enjoy your moment before I wipe the floor with you.”
Dorian chuckled. “Bold talk. I’ll be sure to save you a consolation egg when I win.”
As the buzzer sounded for everyone to head outside for the final egg. Dorian headed straight for the garden, where the last egg—legendary, golden, and so glittery it practically screamed “winner”—was supposedly hidden.
And there it was. Under a bush, glowing like it had its own spotlight.
But before Dorian could claim his prize, he saw you charging toward it. He ran as fast as he could.
Your hands collided on the egg at the same time.
Suddenly, the air around you went electric, and a pop sounded like a champagne bottle being uncorked. The egg pulsed, and then—poof!—out hopped a small bunny, wearing a tiny vest, and looking way too pleased with itself.
“Wha—?” Dorian blinked, stepping back. “Okay, what... what just happened?”
The bunny raised its tiny paws and shook its head. “Oh, this is awkward. Normally, it's just one person, but—” It hopped in a slow circle around you, eyeing you both with amusement. “You two? Hilarious.”
You narrowed your eyes. “Are you serious? What is that?”
The bunny sniffed. “I’m a magical being, thank you very much. And you two? You’re stuck together. Literally.”
Dorian looked at you, then at the bunny, then back at you. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
The bunny beamed. “Oh no, I’m serious. You’ve got five magical eggs. Deliver them to their guardians before sundown, or you’re stuck with that egg forever. Together. First stop is the Garden Keeper."
Before you could protest, the bunny hopped away, disappearing into the bushes with a wicked chuckle.
