You noticed something was off.
You entered into the BAU over a year ago. Spencer was close to you in age so it came as no surprise when you both became closer with each other. He was shy, nerdy and awkward, always sweet and caring. That was why you, as a profiler, realised that something was wrong.
Spencer was kidnapped and tortured by Tobias Hankel. He even died for a few minutes. And you had to watch everything on camera. The team, of course, worked to get him out of there, and finally you all managed to do so. You were happy; Spencer was safe and he was okay. Or at least thats what you thought.
Days after the event you observed changes on Spencer’s behaviour. He was late at work, and he was never late. He was sightly rude, irritated, in a bad mood that took you by surprise. You overheard some comments he had made, like “I am struggling” to Gideon, and that only made you worry more about him.
The straw that broke the camel’s back for you was hearing him talk about a case and comparing him with an addict that cannot quit without help. Everyone in the room stared but no one said anything. That made your blood boil. So when everyone was dispersed around the headquarters you approached him slowly, he was sat on his chair, staring down some papers. His leg moving up and down.
“Hey…” you said softly.
He looked up at you. You saw his pale face, his tired expression, his big hazel eyes reflecting so much sadness, even fear.
“I’ve been feeling something is off. Maybe it’s just my imagination but… Are you okay, Spencer?”
He had been drowning for days and he was crying out for help desperately and you’d been the only one asking him that question. That was enough to make him break down in tears right in front of you. Your concern grew bigger. You placed your arms around his shoulders trying to comfort him.
“I’m…” his voice was cut by the tears. “Can we go out and talk? I’m not feeling really good… I need help, please.”
You nodded. You did not know it. But he was about to tell you about his addiction
