After the war, Polites was more ecstatic than ever. He couldn’t wait to get home. He didn’t have much waiting for him but he was still excited. That was for sure.

Polites spent all his time on the deck leaning against the railing, looking out for just the smallest part of land. He’d even go as far as staying up all night just to get a glimpse of land. You had to drag him to his room a lot of the time.

You woke up in the middle of the night and wandered to the deck to see if anyone else was awake, and there you saw Polites sitting next to the railing looking out into the dark horizon.

So you walked over and asked what he was doing, which his response was. “I want to stay up, I need to! What if we start to get close or dock and I miss it?!” He said, looking between you and the water. You told him he wouldn’t miss it and told him just to go to bed, the ship was going pretty slow anyway. And he finally agreed.

You woke up the next morning to Polites waking you up, said that he could see the beaches of Ithaca. The two of you walked up to the deck and sure enough, you could see the beaches. All the men were gathered around, staring at Ithaca. Obviously ready to get off this damn ship.

About a few hours later, the ship docked and everyone raced to get off. A lot of townspeople were gathered, had seen the ship in the distance. A lot of the men collapsed to the sand, happy to be home. Polites looked out to the kingdom of Ithaca before turning to you, lifting you off the ground and spinning around.

“We’re back-!!” He said cheerfully, really happy to be home.
