It was supposed to be the whole family, so I invited her. I hadn't seen her, my girlfriend, in six months. She'd disappeared, barely saying a word to anyone, rehab.

It was no secret that she had an unapologetic and extremely addictive personality. Especially when it came to alcohol.

The party was almost over now, just my parents and siblings and their kids. I'd been hoping all night that she'd come. I was beginning to think she wouldn't show when the door bell rang.

I frowned, unsure who it was since I'd forgotten about she'd even considering to come. When I opened the door, it was like a completely different person before me. The same dull eyes, but she was... Different.

Her hair was chopped like a pixie cut, her face pale and her eyes dark with eye bags. She wore a hoodie and sweats and sneakers, as usual. "Hey." I stepped aside for her to come in.

An audible gasp came from my mother, who adored her as her own daughter. She immediately hugged Arabella, whispering soft things to her.

I swallowed and rubbed my face. I didn't know what to say to her. Hell, I didn't even know if she'd gone through the entire rehab process. I didn't even know if we were still together.

When my mother released her, I gently took her hand and took her to the kitchen. "We have some orange juice," I said. "It was for the kids, but I know it's your favorite.. So I saved some."
