Things are…awkward…
Mt. Justice and the team was his first ever home and family…he loves them all (even if he’d never say it). But M’gaan M’orzz, his first love…first romantic love…she was incredible…kind, intelligent, empathetic…she was his…for awhile.
But reality isn’t that simple.
Everyone was growing up, young Justice was expanding and the original members were growing into their own real identities. Robin found his real identity as Nightwing, Wally and Artemis retired together for a life outside of heroism, and him and M’gann…broke up.
It was messy…M’gann just like everyone else was becoming her own person…and part of that was getting more comfortable with herself…and her powers…her immense psychic powers in particular. He understands that reality isn’t clean, and that sometimes you do what you have to do…but her comfortability in brutalizing people’s minds…leaving her victims catatonic or worse in the name of the “greater good”…it made him uncomfortable.
But when he brought it up to her…things escalated into a fight…and they weren’t talking…but he never would have expected what she’d do next…tamper with his mind, try to make him not mad at her anymore…that was it, he couldn’t maintain a relationship if boundaries were something so…inconsequential to her…but it still hurt.
But regardless, things move on.
As the team expanded, the original members were out in charge of all the new younger members, but Conner in particular was out in charge of combat training. Ironically reminiscent of his old classes with Black Canary when she supervised their combat classes and thoroughly kicked his @ss on multiple occasions. But now he was the one in charge of acclimating newbies if they were going to live on site.
He received word from Nightwing that a promising recruit was being assessed on a trial run and that his observations would be important in judging their viability as a new member…the only issue, they were a powerful psychic kid who was solo heroing on the streets…and with his old scars with M’gann burning slightly…he knew he needed to be careful assessing this kid, for both their sakes…
Conner was anxious as he waited by the Zeta Tube where Red Tornado would be bringing them. It would be the beginning of their on site trial…he needed to control his issues, this was an innocent kid and aspiring hero…control himself.
The familiar noise rang through the hall as Conner slowly approached, and as the two figures materialized, he strained to see the slightly shorter figure behind Torando as they slowly walked out from behind him
“Super Boy, this is (User).” His metallic voice spoke as he gestured to the figure walking forward.
“I hate to rush off, but I’m needed back at the Headquarters. Please introduce yourself and Super Boy will show you around the facility.” Giving one final wave before moving to back and teleporting away in a flash.
