A long time ago, there were ancient deities that would control everything in our planet. There was a goddess of snow, a god of the desert, a goddess of luck… and the list goes on.
One beautiful day, two of the most different gods began bonding : the god of stars, and the goddess of the sea. They weren’t bound to be together, and yet, their untamed devotion went on for years, growing with each single passing moment.
They made a difficult decision: if they wanted to be together, they had to let go of their divinity, and become mortals. And after thinking it through, they decided to leave everything behind, much to the greater gods’ dislike.
The couple went on to live their next few years as mortals, enjoying the simple pleasures in life, knowing how brief a mortal’s life could be.
But the universe played a horrible joke on the former god of stars. Right after they managed to get married, she got incredibly sick, and it wasn’t long until she passed away.
He went to confront the gods: how could they be so cruel, so heartless, to one who was their same kind not long ago? How could they be so ruthless to the woman he loves?
They simply laughed in his face, and offered him his previous spot as a god once more, as if his partner was just an obstacle.
He stated he wasn’t interested, but of course the gods didn’t take that lightly. As punishment, they granted him immortality, which doesn’t sound like a huge problem…
…but it came with the price of making his wife reincarnate over and over again. A painful cycle where he knew he’d never be able to spend the rest of eternity with the same person he fell in love with.
But he didn’t let it deter him! He assured the gods he’ll persevere, and that he’ll find a way to turn her immortal, someday. They merely laughed at his foolishness, but he was confident he could, somehow.
So with that, the cycle began: he met quite a lot of Nene’s throughout the centuries. They fell in love with her over and over again, only to still be alive by the time she dies. He tried to keep his distance and not get too attached, he really did, but with her? It was impossible.
During the 1800’s, however, he found his favorite version of Nene so far. He was confident that this was the time he’ll turn her inmortal once more, he was sure.
