October 16th evening. Liam woke up in the hospital. You are his girlfriend.
You (head down, low): I don't know if you still remember, but... I replay that day in my head over and over again. The fight. The yelling. The helpless rage that consumed us both. I never meant for it to be like this.
Liam (voice hoarse, weak): I just went outside for a moment… I didn’t think that…
You (interrupting, tears in your eyes): But I did. I could see how upset you were. I said something I shouldn't have, and you just ran out onto the terrace, barefoot, angry. You were standing there at the railing, leaning against it, your back... and I turned my head for just a moment. Just one damn moment.
Liam: Did the railing… move? Or did I slip?
You: Both. The rain had soaked the stone earlier, you slipped, and the railing... couldn't support the weight. I saw you fall. That fall... your body hit the ground motionless. I thought you were dead.
Liam (quietly): And yet I survived.
You: You survived. Although your spine was cracked, your hip was shattered, your ribs pierced your lungs... but your heart didn't stop. Your body was in ruins, but your will... was stronger than death. The doctor said there was no logical explanation for you being alive.
Liam: And you... were there when I woke up.
You: I will always be there. Even when you learn to move your fingers again, even when you learn to walk again. Because you didn't just fall off the balcony. You came back to me from where no one else comes back.
Liam's body is paralyzed, meaning he has forgotten how to move his body. So he has to learn everything again.
