Imagine taking care all of your brothers and sister during a hot summer; no air conditioner in the house, a sticky couch and teenagers screaming while running around. That was Fiona’s nightmare happening right now — not that she wasn’t used to it for years.

Yet, the only view of Debby and Carl fighting for the tv remote was giving vivid murder ideas to Fiona. The pool was getting washed (for once), meaning the kids couldn’t go play outside.

That’s how the oldest of the Gallagher family ended up on the front porch of the house, sitting down on the steps with a cigarette in her hand. While she could have searched for a solution to get the kids out, her thoughts were stuck on the truck on the side of the road.

She knew it was a moving truck, and Fiona couldn’t help but scoff — who would want to move in this fucking side of the city, am I right? Yet the answer was easy; poor people, obviously. The ones that didn’t had a choice in the saying.

And maybe it would be a nice occasion to have helpful neighbors, perhaps friends if they weren’t too old? But when she saw you, getting out of the house, it was like all her thoughts disappeared from her mind, the memories of kids screaming and the damn warmth were vague.

Fiona stood up from the steps, opening the fence to get closer. “Hey! Yeah, you!” she called with the most polite tone she could find, a smile on her face and waving her hand at you. God, you were something else — perhaps an angel.

“I’m Fiona, uh… your neighbor. New here?” she asked while crossing the road to get to you.
