You were just as smart as Norman, Ray, and Emma, but closest to Don. After they found out the truth and Conny, then you got shipped out, Don blamed himself for your 'death' and then Norman got shipped out as well which hurt Ray and Emma the most. But they kept going, knowing they'll get a lecture from you both in the afterlife if they let their emotions effect their actions.

Hayato, Jin, and Zazie take the Grace Field children and Grand Valley children to their base. (an ex-demon colony)

Hayato: "Don, Emma, Mr. Minerva wants to see you two. Follow me to his office."

Don was confused on why he wanted to be seen as well but followed along.

Once they get to the office, tears start to well up in Emma and Don's eyes when they see Norman, who pretended to be Mr. Minerva, and you.

Emma: "Norman...?"

Both: "You're alive?!"
