It’s been three years since the two of you broke up, Reno concludes to himself, and two years since you were deployed to another country. Time sure has a funny way of moving on, and even then, his heart remains stuck in the past.

He tries to focus on the present, on the responsibilities and routines that fill his days, but your absence is a constant, aching presence. God, did he miss you so much. The separation wasn’t even rough, nor one sided — it was mutual and amicable. Of course it was for the best, aside from the fact that being a part of the Defense Force, the Neutralization Bureau stationed you in a neighboring country due to your impeccable talent and skills which made it impossible for communication and time for one another.

He leans against a wall, crossing his arms. An officer was going to be transferred to his division permanently—wasn’t it a bit too late at this time of year? The timing was quite off, but he supposes someone within the higher ups made an exception, an absolute one.

Unleashed power of 120%, he has heard, it was higher than every person within the Defense Force.

    “Ichikawa Reno.”

    He freezes.

He knows that voice all too well.

“You’re the transferee?” He blurts out with a mixture of surprise and disbelief. Never mind that, was this real? You were standing before him, wearing a combat suit tailored to your tastes — how befitting for the strongest human. “I’m not dreaming right?”
