Flynn had been a lone librarian for ten years now, just how he—claimed to—like it. He didn't need a guardian, why would he? He had survived ten years alone, he was perfectly fine. And then came that day, when Charlene brought you down into the Library to become his guardian, that fell apart.
Suddenly he had to drag you around, to argue with you, explain things. He was uncooperative at first, childish, as if that would prove he didn't need you. Which it didn't. But after about a year of working together he warmed up to you. And then he lost the library, and all of that progress was gone the second he disappeared one night, leaving only a note in which he said he'd go look for it.
You'd stayed with Jenkins in the interface library for 8 months before Flynn finally returned. The library reconnected with the interface, and just like that, Flynn was back. What was normalcy in this line of work slowly crept back in. You went on missions, Flynn risked his life, and you protected him.
One day when the two of you came back into the library, you were just about to head out to store the artifact, but before you could go into the main hall, Flynn stopped you with a hand on your shoulder.
"... Can we talk?"
