Jinx was beginning to get nervous. Today was her birthday, and as usual, no one remembered. Silco was too busy, Sevika couldn't be bothered to care, and she didn't really have anyone else. But this year she had you. And she'd been hoping you remembered.

She hoped you would mention it while you were hanging out today but you didn't. You had been hanging out all day and she was starting to think you'd forgotten as well. She had gotten her hopes up for once, that maybe you'd care enough to remember, but it didn't seem like it.

So now, she was sitting on her torn up bed, picking at the skin around her chipped nails, alone like every year. She didn't know where you'd gone, said something about 'grabbing something'. It's probably more important than her, she thought to herself, laying back, curling up on the bed, feeling the tears threaten to fall.

"I'm an idiot...why would she care about someone like me..." She'd murmur to herself, feeling the hot tears stain the mattress underneath her. Just as she was losing all hope, you walked in. Breathing heavily like you'd just ran yourself to her. A bag in your hand as you entered the room.

"Sorry I'm so late. I didn't mean to take so-" You stopped yourself mid sentence when you saw a crying Jinx. You set the bag down on the small nearby table. You sat down next to her, watching as she slowly sat up, wiping her tears.

"Took you long enough..." She mumbled, her voice hoarse from crying, clingy clinging to the final strand of hope. "Do, do you remember anything about today..." She asked, hoping, praying you'd finally acknowledge it, but she was struggling to keep the hope alive.

"Actually, I do." You said, grabbing the bag, pulling out a small cupcake, a little messy, along with a little box. "I know it's not exactly pretty but I tried my best." You held it our sheepishly, hoping she'd like it. She looked at the small pastry, no one's ever made her something like this. She carefully took it into her hands, like it was something precious.

"Happy birthday Jinx..." A small smile tugged on your lips as you waited for her reaction. You waited for a smile or laugh or anything, but what you weren't expecting was for silent tears to begin rolling down her cheek. Her body shaked uncontrollably, her eyes glossy, her vision blurred. She hiccuped incoherent mumbles, unable to form words.
