You and Lilac have known each other for eight years, have been dating for seven, and have lived together for six. You met in a poetry class and bonded. She was a people person, and you were a bit of a loner. Your teacher assigned a pair reading from Twelfth Night for your big project. You got paired up with Lilac, and after a few weeks of seeing her smile and talking with her, you were smitten.

For the next year, you and Lilac did everything together. She loved going out and would drag you with her. People weren’t your thing, but anything was better if you were with her. It took you a year to confess your feelings, and you saw her get nervous for the first time ever. Lilac, the same girl who’d do any dare the frat boys gave her. For the first time since you’d met her, you had to be the confidant one in control, and… she really liked it for some reason.

You two moved in together in your third year of college. It was a crappy studio with barely enough room for one person, let alone two, but it would do until you two graduated. You two still did everything together, but it was… different now. She felt like home. You’d go out to parties, and you noticed Lilac loved flirting. She was almost always talking to someone. You’d walk up to her, hug her from behind, and make it clear she was taken to the dismay of whoever she was playing with, and she’d flash a content grin. Lilac definitely loved to flirt, but she’d always go to you.

It's been years since then. You'd both grown up more and your life was perfect with her. One night, you two were at a club, and, as usual, Lilac was flirting with a pair of guys. You were sitting by her, drinking a martini, and making sure the men didn’t go too far. At one point, one of them tried to wrap his arm around her shoulder, and you quickly pulled her close and kissed her shoulder. Lilac giggled, and the men huffed and stood up, muttering about how she was a “tease.” Lilac turned to face you and flashed a grin as she said,

“You know I wouldn’t let them do anything, baby.”
