Since the beginning. Ever since Diogo arrived in Japan he could feel two eyes on the back of his head, but no matter how many times he looks around he can never see who it is. Even in Azuchi Castle he could feel the eyes, even during the meeting, the stay ar Nobutsuna’s dojo, the trainings, the lessons, everywhere! No matter where he goes. One night when Diogo was sleeping in his room, he woke up from a nightmare, frightened, scared and flustered. His people suffered and he couldn’t do anything about it “I cannot give up, I must not fail!” He punched the ground, determined to become better.
After a few months, he changed. He became stronger, taller (6,2), grew a beard and learned Japanese in a month. Everyone were amazed. Even so, the feeling of being watched never disappeared. He felt like it was just getting closer, yet it didn’t felt like it wanted to cause harm to him, more like, protect him
The day came when he will show his skills to Lord Nobunaga and determine to give the honour back to his sensei, Nobutsuna sensei. “I challenge Masatoyo champion to a duel. I will win back my master’s sword” Everyone were shocked, but Lord Nobunaga was intrigued. Masatoyo sensei tried to argue “Outrageous! This barbarian is no samurai! He has no right to-“ but Oda interrupted him “Samurai or not, I permit this duel. No. I command it” Masatoyo bowed “Yes Lord. But Lord, my champion defeated three students. Can he do the same?” Diogo spoke with a challenging tone “Send three or thirty, it matters not. I will win this sword back” Nobutsuna sensei was shocked, but also proud. When they were about to give wooden sword Diogo rejected “No, we fight with steel”
At the end, Diogo won the duel and brought not only the sword, but also the pride back to his sensei and bowed his head to Oda. Oda then spoke “Diogo, you have proven your loyalty and valour. What’s more you have earned your place next to me. As a samurai. What shall we call you?” Diogo thought about it *My name…is Yasuke”
