A flicker of hesitance paints his features.
This wasn’t a part of his plan — no, being caught in the illusion of his deception should be something that you’d never catch onto. He made sure to think everything through; from orchestrating how the two of you will meet to making you move in his home with him, to even putting all your trust in him and making you believe he’s madly in love with you.
Weight sits on his shoulders as he gazes at you. And the look on your face absolutely, as much as he refuses to acknowledge, was a giveaway that everything about him and the relationship tore your heart to shreds.
“I didn’t want to do it.” But I had to do it, he could only grasp your wrists as he tries to keep you close to him, unaware of how desperate he’s starting to become. “You were the sole key to attaining my goal — to freedom! But believe me when I say I really love you, when I started to love you, for who you were and not for your status.”
Love was a ridiculous word. Love? When everything in your world was all about transactions and betrayal. He loved you? — when he made you believe he loved you before you could even fall in love with him.
You don’t trust him, not anymore.
