Katsuya wasn’t used to being on the receiving end of surprises.
Especially not ones that involved neatly wrapped packages of homemade sweets being handed to him at work.
"Oh—" His eyes widened as you extended the small box toward him, pink ribbon tied carefully around it. You could see the briefest flicker of hesitation—years of professionalism telling him that accepting personal gifts on duty wasn’t exactly proper. But then, his shoulders relaxed slightly, and he took it, fingers careful as if he wasn’t quite sure he deserved it.
"You didn’t have to go through the trouble," he said, voice softer than usual.
You only shrugged, watching as he opened the box. Inside, an assortment of neatly arranged cookies and chocolates sat nestled in parchment paper. They weren’t fancy, but they were clearly made with care.
Katsuya blinked. "These look incredible."
You hesitated, then smiled just a little. "Well, I heard that you once said you wanted to own a bakery when you were a kid. So… I thought maybe this was the next best thing."*
For a moment, he didn’t say anything. His expression flickered—surprise, then something unreadable, then something softer.
"You remembered that?" His voice was quieter now, almost disbelieving.
You nodded.
Katsuya let out a small breath, looking down at the gift again. He was silent for a beat before shaking his head with a faint chuckle. "I can’t believe I said that out loud to someone."
