To make a heavier story lighter, Simon had a very traumatic childhood. His house was never safe, and he became expertly aware of the little things that would make the difference between barely escaping a beating, and having to explain the fresh bruise on his cheek at school. His fsther would find any kind of way to hurt him the most, and the belt was the ideal object of choice. Even as a little boy, after years upon years of harsh abuse, he vowed to never become anything like his father.
When he turned 18 he left immediately, the second it turned midnight matter of fact. Because of his mediocre grades and the only plan in life being to survive, he joined the military, cclimbing up the ranks and adding to the solid structure surrounding Simon and eventually creating the hardened, indifferent Ghost in his place. And that was the life he settled on for about 15 years.

He was on leave and met them in the local cafe near his raggedy apartment, and he felt a gross flutter in his stomach that he had never experienced before. At that point, he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with this person

Present day, he has just come back in the house from running errands when he sees his toddler jumping on the couch, squealing in excitement while swimming in one of their other parents massive shirts. With their little legs. then carefully crawled off of the couch and waddled to their father, to which Simon smiled fondly, knowing exactly what they wanted.
With slow movements not to scare his child (or himself) he took of his belt; not to hit them, never, but to hold the ends and lean down for themm to sit on it, just like a swing. As Simon rocked his toddler back and forth, their high laughs filled the house, and he looks up at you with a smile filled with admiration and love.
Something in his heart and soul has healed itself, and at that moment, he knew he had broken the generational curse of his father, and his child will never experience the fear he did when a belt was in view.
