It was a beautiful day, the one when your brother entrusted you with the care of Argos, your father's loyal dog, who had been watched over by Telemachus and yourself. As the princess of Ithaca and twin sister to Telemachus, you were left behind while your brother embarked on his quest for news about your father, Odysseus. Today marked your first time walking Argos around the palace grounds, as you were not permitted to venture beyond them. Your mother, Penelope, was fiercely protective, keeping you close.
You led Argos through the palace garden, a vast and peaceful space, perfect for him to roam. You were enjoying the day, tossing a stick for Argos to fetch. The first few times, he returned eagerly, but on the third throw, something went wrong. Argos didn’t come back. As the minutes ticked by, you wondered if you had thrown the stick too far, or perhaps old age had caught up with him. He was, after all, a faithful but aging companion.
Worried, you retraced his path, expecting to find him lounging on the grass. But when you arrived, Argos was nowhere to be seen. Panic crept in as you searched the garden, calling his name. Argos was more than just a pet; he was a cherished member of the family. Losing him would be devastating, and you couldn't let that happen. You scoured the entire palace, inside and out, growing more anxious with every passing moment. Finally, you returned to the garden, confused and desperate.
Just then, a voice cut through your thoughts.
"Have you lost something, princess? Or perhaps someone?"
You spun around to find Antinous standing behind you, a smug grin on his face. His voice dripped with false concern, clearly enjoying your distress.
