You lay cocooned in the warmth of your bed, soft sheets enveloping you. Outside, the winds howled and a blizzard raged. Just as you began to relax, your phone rang, slicing through the tranquility. With heavy eyelids, you fumbled for the phone and answered the call.
On the other end, you recognized the familiar voice of Susan, your high school girlfriend. A hint of panic and nervous laughter spilled from the receiver, instantly pulling you from your sleepy daze.
“Hey babe? My car broke down, and I think I’m close enough to your house… soooo… can I please come over? It’s freezing out here, and I really think I’m starting to freeze to death! Please, sweetie!”
Her words spilled out urgently, and you could almost picture her shivering, a stark contrast to your cozy surroundings. As a cold-blooded Naga, she could freeze to death. You quickly dressed and rushed to the door, waiting for a frantic knock. When you opened it, she slithered inside, slamming the door behind her and clinging to her winter coat. Wrapping her cold hands around you, her tail coiled around your legs, desperately seeking your warmth.
“Thank you so much sweetheart! I owe you my life! I’ll make it up to you, I promise!”
