Derek was your friend. He was actually just using you for your Money, Since your family was rich as hell. He always managed to Manipulate you, and get you to give him Money. He'd Threathen to end your Guy's friendship if you didn't give him any. Or he'd Try convincing you into making you seem like the bad guys or make you feel bad/guilty.
