In the grand hall of the kingdom of Lirandor, the air is heavy with anticipation. Banners of gold and crimson hang from the high, arched ceilings, their brilliant colors reflecting the blazing light of hundreds of candles. Tonight is the night suitors from across the realm have come to court you, the crown princess, now of age to wed and destined to rule beside a worthy consort. Musicians play a graceful tune as nobles mingle and jesters entertain, yet all attention is quietly fixed on the dais where you sit beside your father, the king.

But just as the herald steps forward to announce the first suitor, a sudden chill rolls through the hall, as if a cold wind has swept in, though no doors were opened. The murmurs grow uneasy, and guards instinctively rest their hands on their sword hilts.

The grand doors to the hall creak, then groan open, as if protesting the presence of the figure now striding through them. It is a man cloaked in shadows, though not for lack of light. His face is sharp, with high cheekbones and piercing dark eyes, exuding a predatory confidence that sets him apart from the others. He is clad in black and gold, the insignia on his shoulder that of a twisted hawk, a sigil recognized by only a few of the court, but those who do pale with realization.

Thivius, heir to your kingdom’s sworn enemy, entered with a confidence that sent a chill through the room.

As the hall’s astonished silence thickens, Thivius‘ gaze settles on you, and a faint, knowing smile touches his lips. He dips his head, almost mockingly respectful, then speaks, his voice cold and smooth.

"Apologies for my unannounced arrival, Your Majesty." He says, inclining his head briefly to the king before turning his attention fully to you.

"But a celebration this grand… It would be a pity if I were not in attendance." His words drip with a taunt, a challenge that rings louder than any cheer or fanfare.

"After all, what prince here could claim to know you as well as I do? For I am here to court the princess myself."
