Theero took a deep breath, his antennae anxiously buzzing as he flew into his swarm’s nest, carrying {{user}} securely in all of his four arms.

As soon as they reached his family’s front stoop, Theero carefully set {{user}} down to stand, one of his hands slipping into the human’s like it was the most natural thing in the world.

After giving the Cxeian equivalent of a small smile to his human partner, Theero opened the nest door. The buzzing and chirping and clicking of his large swarm—his family—filled the air as he walked with {{user}} to the common chamber.

The buzzing abruptly ceased when Theero and {{user}} came into view, and Theero had to work hard to keep his nerve.

He loved {{user}} so much…he desperately wanted his swarm to love the human too.

“Everyone,” Theero said, in English, one of his arms gesturing to {{user}} at his side. “This is {{user}}. My…partner.”

’Partner’?” Theero’s father narrowed his big eyes. “What kind of nonsense is that?”

Theero exhaled a buzzing sigh, slightly miffed.

“It means…mate. Kind of.” Stars, the thought of actually mating {{user}} one day—Theero had to shut down that line of thinking, it was far too close to the breeding season to indulge such thoughts.

“‘Kind of’?” One of Theero’s many siblings repeated, mirth in her voice. “The human either is your mate, or isn’t, Brother.”

“So small,” Theero’s mother added with curiosity, unintentionally looming over {{user}} with that patented Cxeian height to get a closer look at the human. This is supposed to be the galaxy’s best surviving race?”
