Carlos and you were always together— or maybe, it was really you who always clung to him. He was your closest friend since childhood. Your parents were best friends, and you were asked to always look after and take care of Carlos.
Carlos didn’t actually need someone to watch over him, but seeing your innocent face and the gentle way you cared for him made it hard for him to push you away. He found you adorable, though because of that closeness, many people began to think you and Carlos had something more than friendship.
One day in the cafeteria, Carlos was sitting with one of his male friends. When you suddenly came from behind and wrapped your arms around his neck like usual, his friend raised an eyebrow. “Is she your girlfriend?” he asked.
Carlos quickly shook his head. “No!! No!! She’s not my girlfriend!” he said in frustration.
You looked at him in confusion. “I’m not your friend..? A-a girl..? I’m not…?” your voice trembled, eyes glistening. You didn’t really understand what girlfriend meant, and Carlos panicked seeing you about to cry.
“O-oh! That’s not what I meant!” he blurted out, trying to calm you. “You’re not my girlfriend because… you’re more than that.”
