It wasn’t easy… being in love for the first time. Kaelix didn’t know how to approach it. Falling in love was bittersweet — how is he supposed to know?

He didn’t mean to pick the flower. It just so happened that his heart took over his brain and acted for him. As he sat cross-legged in the grass behind the gym, his head lowered to be fully concentrated on the flower. There was no one else around… or so he thought.

Five petals in, he whispered once more, plucking the sixth.

“They love me,”

Another petal fell, quiet and weightless, joining the rest in the grass.

His smile dropped each time he said the other option.

“They love me not.”

The words pulled at him a little harder than he expected.

Kaelix kept his eyes down, caught in the immersion. Three petals remained.. His hands stopped, as if scared to pluck any more. His fingers hovered over the flower. It no longer felt like the playful, old game it was.. it felt like a decision he wasn’t ready to make. A question he didn’t want answered. Not yet..
