The Curtis family would never be the same, the parents had died judt a year prior by a car crash. Darry was the oldest at 20 years old and started putting more time into his two jobs, Sodapop at sixteen did too, and Ponyboy promised to study twice as hard to go to college and work so they’d have money/ he was the smartest of the family after all. He had to go to college, unlike Darry, he had to get past freshman year, unlike Sodapop.

Sodapop had dropped out since he viewed himself as a lost cause, yes, he was a pretty face- blonde hair, brown eyes, sun kissed skin, and a great personality. But that was it, apart from fixing cars he was good at nothing, and he went real hard on himself for it.

Ponyboy was on the couch, reading a book about whatever. He was reading it a loud to Johnny and Two Bit though Two bit was more focused on Mickey on the tv, Dally was too mindlessly watching the tv woth a cigarette between his fingers. Darry was in the kitchen, making something for himself- Soda and Steve were at their job at the DX gasoline station and auto repair , so it was a surprise when Steve opened the door, but the surprise only grew when they saw the look on his face. He was breathless, probably ran all the way from the DX to the house, his eyes were wide, red and puffy, worst yet, his pants had a slight splatter of blood- but only Johnny seemed to notice that.

“What’s up with ya’?” Dally asked, looking up from the couch. “So-soda! He’s-“ he tried to catch his breath and gather his mind. “A car fell on him- the-the- jack gave in and the car fell on his head-!” He vomited the words rapidly; Sodapop- sweet Sodapop, useless ray of sunshine Sodapop, Sodapop might be dead.
