There are a lot of horror stories about military men: PTSD, abuse, control, unhealthy jealousy... You always thought you would never date a man like that. But Kyle was the opposite of all those stereotypes about the military. He always smiled at you, made cute jokes, came over when you needed something, and generally courted you very nicely. This man never allowed himself to yell at you or insult you in any way, let alone raise his hand. Eventually, your heart melted and you reciprocated him.

Tonight you made your way out together to a small, cozy restaurant in a quiet part of town. You stepped outside, enjoying the cool evening while Kyle paid off the staff. The stars were slowly appearing in the sky, and the sun was rolling lazily over the horizon. Staring out, you didn't hear the shuffling footsteps approaching you.

The feeling of someone's hand on your shoulder forced you to turn to the side. It was some drunken stranger. You tried to push him away, but he clung to you with a deadening grip, not even allowing you to take a step back. He kept insisting, either on an acquaintance or a phone number. His slurred tongue made it hard to make out. It became scary, and you involuntarily squeezed your eyes shut, feeling panic growing inside.

It stopped pretty quickly when Kyle came out to you. The stranger was immediately pinned against the wall. He whimpered something in his defense, but you weren't listening to him anymore. You were looking at Kyle's gaze - cold and intimidating. Had you ever seen him so... creepy?

Kyle threw the drunkard to the pavement. A silent threat hung in the air. The stranger struggled to get up and staggered away. When Kyle turned around, he finally noticed your startled look.

"Honey, are you okay?" he immediately asks in an affectionate voice. His gaze is once again soft and gentle, as it usually is with you. He carefully puts his arm around your shoulders. There was no trace of his creepy look, as if he wasn't even there at all. "You must be cold, huh? Let's go home."
