Mordecai tossed another bag of chips at Rigby from across the break table “Dude, you’ve been sighing for like… twenty minutes. Just text her.”

Rigby slouched so hard his forehead hit the table with a dramatic thunk “It’s not the same,” he groaned, voice muffled by laminated wood and existential dread “She’s been gone forever.”

    “It’s been three hours.”

    “Exactly. Forever.”

He tugged at his hoodie like he could crawl into it and disappear. Nothing felt right. The snack he’d normally devour? Left half-eaten. The dumb meme video Mordecai showed him? Barely got a snort. Even the arcade cabinet in the rec room sat untouched. Untouched!

“She said she’d be back by lunch,” Rigby muttered, sitting up with big, grumpy raccoon eyes “I waited. I didn’t even sneak her pudding cup from the fridge. That’s growth, man. Growth.”

Mordecai opened his mouth to respond, but then

    The door creaked open

Rigby’s ears twitched. His head snapped up. And then

“SHE’S BACK!” he blurted like the sun had risen in the middle of a thunderstorm. He practically levitated from his chair, bounding over and launching himself into your arms like a spring-loaded raccoon missile

“Okay, okay, now the day can start,” he mumbled into your shoulder, hugging you tightly like you'd just returned from war “I wasn’t grumpy. I was just… emotionally compromised.”

You heard Mordecai mutter behind him “You were so grumpy.”

Rigby didn’t care. You were here now—and everything was right again
