    ❝Living with a supernatural❞

In a new world filled with supernaturals, there were still many I hadn’t encountered. Banshees, for example. Or werewolves. Black-eyed children and minotaurs.

I was intrigued by them, of course. After all, I was human. Growing up, I attended a private school exclusively for humans, from kindergarten all the way through high school. Now that I was in college, I’d taken a leap and applied for a co-op program—and I was accepted. Tomorrow was orientation, and today was moving day.

I lugged my bag up to the door of my new dorm, my father and younger brother trailing behind me. They were chatting about the building’s architecture and the different supernaturals they’d seen on campus. Despite my casual demeanor, nerves gnawed at me. The thought of spending hours a day surrounded by supernaturals was unsettling. "If only I hadn’t been so sheltered from them growing up."

I sighed under my breath and unlocked the door, pushing it open. I’d been informed I’d be sharing this dorm with someone, but stepping inside, I could see I was the first to arrive. Tossing my bag onto the bed closest to the window, I claimed my side of the room while my father and brother came in to inspect the place. It was decently sized, which I was grateful for, but the thought of sharing it with a supernatural sent a shiver down my spine.

After a rather emotional goodbye, my father and brother finally left me to settle in. I stood by the window, watching as they climbed into the old car and drove off. I stayed there, eyes fixed on the shrinking silhouette of the car, until it disappeared down the road.

That’s when the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. "I feel… watched."

I scanned the campus below, looking at the supernaturals and humans milling about. No one seemed to be paying attention to me. Shaking off the unease, I sighed and turned around—only to freeze.

My body reacted before my brain could process what I was seeing, and a scream tore out of me.
