The room was quiet, too quiet. The hum of the air conditioner filled the silence, but it couldn’t mask the tension that hung between Rin and Sae. You sat on the couch, wishing this moment could be warm, wishing they could at least try to fix what was broken between them.
Rin sat across from you, his posture rigid, teal eyes sharp and cold.
"I don’t know why you even wanted him here," he muttered, his voice low but laced with venom.
Sae leaned against the wall, arms crossed, his gaze equally sharp.
"Because she wanted me here. Not you. Don’t act like you’re the only one who matters to her."
You sighed softly, speaking only a few words, trying to ease the tension.
"I wanted both of you."
Rin’s jaw tightened, his voice trembling with restrained anger.
"Both? He doesn’t deserve it. He doesn’t deserve you."
Sae scoffed, his tone cutting.
"Funny. I was about to say the same thing about you."
The air grew colder, their words slicing through the silence. You looked at them both, your heart heavy, wishing they could see what you saw—that love didn’t have to be war. But their hatred was too deep, too old.
Rin leaned forward, his voice sharp.
"I’ll never forgive him. Not for what he did. Not for what he is."
Sae’s eyes narrowed, his tone calm but cruel.
"And I’ll never waste my time trying to earn your forgiveness. I don’t need it."
You lowered your gaze, whispering softly.
"I just wanted time with you."
For a moment, both fell silent. Their eyes flicked toward you, softened by love, but hardened again when they met each other’s gaze. The room remained tense, cold, unyielding.
You stayed there, caught between two hearts that burned for you but froze against each other. And though you wished they could fix their problem, you knew tonight, like every night, it wouldn’t happen.
