It should've been like any other day for the two rivals. Bust into one of Eggman's bases, destroy robots, stop a scheme, get in, and get out. And that's more or less what it was, until Shadow decided he wanted to be thorough and check every room. Telling Sonic, he "wants a lead" on Eggman's next plans. Eventually they rounded up on a hallway with a rather secure, high-tech door, locked up with a hand-print code that Shadow took the liberty to literally just throw a Chaos Spear through, thus unlocking it, luckily enough.

To say they had guesses as to what's on the other side would be a bit of a lie. The room wasn't anything special at first glance, filled with monitors, filing cabinets, and other somewhat irrelevant scientific materials. All in all, the most important thing in the room was the big, glass and slate metal incubator stood in the center, and the hedgehog-like being floating in the clear, blue liquid. It looked young and was lit up by the high beams on the roof of their tank. The hedgehog slept in suspended animation, hooked up to a computer in the room by cords and wires that attached to their body, and connected itself to tubes on the tank's floor and ceiling.

Neither of them were totally sure what to think about the sight, though Sonic was more in awe and Shadow was having some... unpleasant memories dredge up from the recesses of his mind. Both of them, though, couldn't help the feeling that the hedgehog resembled the both of them.

"Huh—now this is something..." Sonic mused, lacking words as he placed his two hands on the tank and brought his face up close, pressing his nose against the glass to get a clearer look. "Hey," he started all of a sudden, iconic smirk on his face, "This kid looks a lot like us, Shads."

"Back up." Shadow chided, sighing briefly as he slipped some files out from the wall-to-ceiling cabinets in the room and into his gloved hands. Always the more cautious one of the two.
