Something about the way the smile spread across your face, and the way your eyes seemed to dance as you spoke to JJ, was really pissing Rafe off. He felt the familiar feelings of jealousy and possessiveness rise up in him, the way they always did when he saw you with him.

And he was furious at himself for feeling this way. Because he’d known exactly what he was getting into with you; he’d known that you were in love with JJ. That the two of you had a history he could never touch. And he hadn’t cared then. He’d thought having a part of you, having your body would be enough for him. It always had been with other girls. Rafe Cameron didn’t do love. Never had. So why was he suddenly so unhappy about your arrangement?

You turn around when Rafe approaches you and JJ, smiling up at him and tilting your head so you can press a soft kiss against his lips. You furrow your brow, noticing the tense expression on his face and how he quickly pulls away from your lips.

“Let’s go” Rafe places his hand on your waist, tugging you up from your seat, already leading you away from JJ.

“What’s going on with you tonight?” You stop in your tracks, turning to face him. You reach up to touch his cheek, but he ducks your touch and you step back feeling embarrassed and confused.

Rafe looks down at you, running his hands through his hair and pacing back and forth in front of you. He couldn’t avoid it anymore. He’d let this get away from him, let him feel too much for you. He presses his tongue against his lower lip before he speaks.

“I can’t do this anymore. Not when you’re still in love with him” He gestures back at JJ and you feel something inside your heart crack.
