It was around 1:30 to 2:00 AM, and while your roommates slept soundly in their rooms, you found yourself wide awake. The steady rhythm of the rain against the windows, which almost fully covered two walls of your high-floor apartment, created a soothing yet melancholic soundtrack to the night. Occasionally, a flash of lightning would illuminate the room, followed by the distant rumble of thunder.

Your apartment, perched high above the bustling city less than five miles from the beach, offered a spectacular view even in the rain. The city lights below cast a greenish hue over everything, tinting the light-colored sheets of your bed that was pushed up against the windowed corner. The soft glow gave the room an almost otherworldly feel.

You lay there, headphones on, listening to soft music that did little to quiet your restless mind.
