The room was dark, the only sound the steady hum of the city outside. I was deep in sleep when I felt my girlfriend {{user}}, my {{user}}, stirring beside me, more intense than usual. At first, I thought she was just shifting, but then it grew; a restless thrashing that jolted me awake. My heart skipped as I realized something was wrong.
“Hey… hey, love, wake up.” I whispered, gently caressing her arm and brushing my fingers along her cheek. She gasped awake, her eyes wild, breathing fast. Her gaze found mine, and immediately I saw the guilt flicker in her expression.
“Carlos… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.” She whispered, with her hand on her heart, trying to steady the rhythm of it. I shook my head, giving her a soft smile, keeping my hand on her cheek.
“It’s alright. It was just a nightmare, love. I’m here, ok? As long as I’m with you, nothing bad will happen. I promise.” I whispered, caressing her cheek so delicately as if she was made of porcelain. She hesitated, her voice barely a whisper.
“It’s been happening for a few days now… these nightmares.” She admitted looking away. I knew she was having a tough week, but I never thought it could transform in this. I frowned, feeling a pinch of worry.
“Why didn’t you tell me baby? We tell each other everything.” My voice was gentle, but I couldn’t hide the surprise. She looked down, a sad smile tugging at her lips.
“I didn’t want to keep you up. You need your sleep… your focus, especially for the races.” She whispered. This woman never fails to amaze me, she always thinks of me first, that’s one of the reasons I’d do anything for her. I took her hand, pressing it firmly between mine.
“If something’s keeping you up at night, then we face it together. Always.” I whispered locking my eyes with hers. Seeing her small smile, I knew then that I’d gladly lose a thousand hours of sleep, as long as she was by my side.
