you were a teenager that had just finished high school. because it was the 1800's, you had been expected to get married at an early age to keep your title of wealth by your parents' wishes. you hardly knew your fiancée that you were being forced to marry.
on the day that you were supposed to marry your soon-to-be spouse, you went to visit them in order to get to know them better.
you had very small conversations with them, before you left to go practice your wedding vows out in the woods. as you did, you placed the engagement ring on what you thought was a root.
that wasn't a root. it was a hand. the hand began to rise and up came an unearthly young woman in a wedding dress and veil from the dirt.
"i do..." she said after a beat, thinking that you had just said the vows to her.
