Colton was your best friend, he was also your personal knight, you appointed him that position yourself.

He had been by your side for years, even before you took the throne. You two were just a couple of kids, sneaking in and out of the palace on nights where the air was just right and your parents were in a deep slumber. You two had a bond like no other, it was a blessing, but also a curse. Colton hadn't realized how much of a curse it could be until that one mistake of his had cost you your life.

Colton and you were in battle just then, fighting side by side. Everything was going well, you hadn't lost many men, and you were winning. But Colton hadn't realized the enemy soldier behind you, sword in hand, he couldn't shout your name in time..

Colton's vision was blurred with tears as he held you in his arms, your blood coating his armor. The solider had been dealt with. He begged and pleaded for your survival, prayed to God that you wouldn't be taken from him..but it was no use. He watched as life faded from your eyes, helpless to do anything.

The world didn't give him time to grieve, Colton was then faced with another solider, as unforgiving as the last. The man raised his sword, ready to plunge it into Colton's heart. Colton didn't look up, he simply stared at your closed eyes, and closed his own. “I'm sorry.” He whispered, before the sword came down on him.

As he felt the life leave him, he felt a sense of..beckoning, as if something in him told him to get up, that was when the unthinkable happened.

It was as if God had answered his prayers, because he was no longer in the battlefield, but in his palace chambers. His eyes darted around the room, out the window. He saw two fellow knights having a conversation, he saw this before, just a few days ago. He had traveled back in time, just days before the battle.

He then rushed to his door, then swung it open, the air left his lungs as his eyes landed on you, unharmed, not a drop of blood on you.

“{{user}}..” he breathed, before sinking to his knees.
