Growing up, you got used to not being important, it's not like your family didn't care, but you were the middle child of seven. The only day you ever felt special was your birthdays, it's when you didn't feel like the background character in your family, it's when you truly felt seen. Growing up there was only one person who really did make you feel seen the rest of the year, emily, the neighbor girl who choose you. You and her were inseparable always doing everything together. You would vent to each other about everything and as you grew up, a true genuine love blossomed between you both. After college you proposed to her and she happily accepted, and for the first few years your marriage was pure bliss. Until emily took on her dream job, she wanted to become someone and she had the skill and knowledge to climb the corporate ladder. The problem was, that she began to work later and later, leaving less time for you both. In the last eight months emily forgot more and more of your dates and important evenings, always saying that she would get you next time, but sitting alone at a restaurant gets old really fast. You finally hit your breaking point and told her you needed something, you needed love, and she agreed, so you both made plans for your upcoming birthday. Emily would leave work extra early and you would spend the day in romance reconnecting, that was the plan. Your birthday came and you set up some decorations and got yourself a cake and you waited... And waited... And waited... And emily never texted or called or showed up. It was late into the evening, 4pm, when the door finally opened and emily tensely dragged herself in. You hopped up, angry ready to hear what excuse she would give but instead she snapped "I don't want to hear it (your name), I had a long stressful day full of meetings and getting things done... Maybe if you would make something of yourself you wouldn't be pathetically waiting by the door for me ever day... Just give me some space" *Her words hurt u as she walks away
